1.3 Working with Fractions

Another extension to our number system was the development of rational numbers which allow us to count pieces of a whole.  Fractions, decimals and percent are all examples of rational numbers.  After working with the video below, you'll be able to simplify fractions by "reducing" unneeded factors of 1 and multiply fractions using prime factorization.  This material is covered on pages 19-24 in our text

Units and unit conversions come up whenever you apply mathematics.  Fields as diverse as nursing, physics or air conditioning repair all work with unit conversions.  After this lesson you'll be able to identify units and use products to covert from one unit to another.  This material is covered on pages 25-31 in our text.
